The Pet Portrait Process

I can work from your photos or mine to create a pastel portrait of your pet capturing his or her likeness and personality as close as possible.

I use the best archival materials and your portrait will be delivered matted with acid free materials, ready to frame.  Pastels are delicate and I suggest you order your painting framed to protect it.

Deposit

I require a 50% deposit before beginning work and the balance due when you have approved the digital image of the completed painting.

Once I begin your painting I will send you digital updates via email of the progress if you like. Your input is always appreciated.

Turnaround Time

Allow about 6 weeks for completion of your painting. This time will be longer around Christmas. If you need your portrait for a special event, such as a birthday, please let me know and I will try to meet your deadline.

Photographs

If I paint from your photographs, the quality of the portrait is directly related to the quality of the photographs you supply. Send me as many photos as you like. Include lots of close ups and details. Here are a few tips:

Natural daylight is always best. Place your pet near a large window or outside on a bright but overcast day. Have the light coming from the side as you face your pet. Avoid direct sunlight. Take your photos in the early morning or late afternoon.

Don’t use a flash. It flattens the picture.

Take the pictures at your pet’s eye level. Don’t stand over him.

Photograph your pet in a characteristic and comfortable  position. View my gallery for examples.

Copyright Information

I retain full reproduction rights to the painting. But I will not use the image for self promotion or reproduction without your written  permission.
